Job Description

Project Title: "Legal and Linguistic Support Project for the Turkish Cypriot community"

General description of the position:

  • S/he will contribute to delivering and organising trainings related to strengthening capacity of the stakeholders involved in “legislative process” and in legal drafting;
  • S/he will provide ad-hoc support, counselling and assistance on legal drafting and “legislative process” as needed; o S/he will contribute to the preparation of the “legislative plan” dedicated to the harmonisation with the EU acquis under TAIEX and developing the Rules of Procedures for the “legislative process”;
  • S/he will be coordinating collection of the past legal texts in progress and in adoption in addition to extracting legal and technical terms for the glossary.

Expert category:

  • Cat. III (>3 years of experience);

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Relevant university degree (i.e. law, or in a directly related discipline); a Master’s Degree in the directly related discipline will be an advantage;
  • Membership in a bar association;
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills, organisational and reporting skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure within complex institutional and organisational settings;
  • Full computer literacy; o Excellent command of written and spoken Turkish and English.

General professional experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of law either as an instructor, a lawyer or a consultant; o Knowledge of “legislative system and procedures” in the Turkish Cypriot community acquired through working in at least one relevant assignment will be an asset.

Specific professional experience:

  • Experience in drafting of legal texts and working with professionals (e.g. lawyers) responsible for drafting legal texts through at least one assignment;
  • Knowledge of EU law will be an asset.

Language skills:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken Turkish and English.
